The timing of John’s death makes it uncertain where he was first buried. The city of Nelson did not acquire the land for the present cemetery (City of Nelson Memorial Park) until 1898. Then the city began transferring bodies from the previous cemetery on High Street to the first designated sections of the new cemetery (including General Plot No.2). In the new cemetery these graves are known as the “resurrection” graves and it is believed that most graves dated before 1899 are resurrection graves. [989]
