Misc. Notes
Name is spelled KNUTE CHRISTOPHER on gravestone.

On 6 Apr 1875, Knut left Mjällby to visit the United States, to visit family already there. At that time, his older brother, Christoffer Jönsson (John Christopher), was in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his uncles, Nels (Nelson) and Bengt (Benjamin), were in Whiteside County, Illinois. From Mjällby, he first made his way to Copenhagen, Denmark, probably by boat from Malmö. His departure from Copenhagen was recorded as 15 Apr 1875 and his stated destination was Fulton, Iowa (although there is a tiny community of Fulton, Jackson County, Iowa, I suspect this might be an error in the transcript or the original record, as there is also a Fulton in Whiteside County, Illinois, which makes more sense in this context). This emigration record states his occupation as “Landarbejder” (farm worker). He stayed there until 1877, when he returned to Sweden, arriving back to the family home in the parish of Mjällby on 10 Aug 1877. ***unidentified event, 12 Apr 1878; see Source[2918]*** Then on 15 Oct 1878, he moved to the Marielund farm in the parish of Nettraby[Nättraby], which is in the same county of Blekinge. His arrival in Nettraby was recorded on 6 Nov 1878, and it is interesting to note that Knut was one of eight men and one woman who all arrived on that same date and went to live at that same farm, but all of them coming from different parishes. At Marielund, Knut was one of many “Rättarelärlingar” which seems to translate as “overseer (foreman / farm supervisor) apprentices.” It appears this was some sort of agriculture school. He stayed there for just under a year, giving intent to move to Skatelöf [Skatelöv], Kronoberg, Sweden, on 25 Oct 1879. However, from then through the end of that year, the record books from Skatelöv do not list his arrival. A different record though, shows that on 14 Apr 1879, he moved from Nettraby to Lästad, Blädinge, Kronoberg, remaining there until he finally left for America the second time, on 22 Jul 1880. Another Swedish emigration record claims that he was departing from Vislanda, Kronoberg, but this is not currently supported by any original records. The parish moving-out record for Blädinge, Kronoberg, shows a “Rättare” named Knut Jönsson, departing for America, from that parish, on 22 Jul 1880. By 29 Jul 1880, he had reached Malmö, where he embarked with a stated destination of Fulton, Illinois (Whiteside County). This is the same county to which his sister, Pella (Ella) emigrated a year later and as mentioned earlier, where his uncles, Nels and Bengt were already residing. He arrived in the United States, on 8 Aug 1880, probably at New York, but no passenger record has yet been found to confirm the details. Some time after that he moved to Minnesota. The earliest record of his residence there is the 1885 Minnesota State Census, which shows that he was in Medina, Hennepin County. He became a naturalized citizen on 3 Mar 1889, at Minneapolis.

Burial detail: A bit difficult to find even if you have a map of the section. Best way is to first locate Walter CHRISTOPHER’s grave in the same section, as follows: Look for the vertical “STANSON” monument near the south side of the road along Section S; go about 14 paces south to Walter’s grave. Now go three rows of graves (flat ground-level markers) east, then five paces south. (based on in-person visit)
Research
Searched the moving-in records of Skatelöv, Kronoberg, Sweden, for 1879-1880 and did not find any record of Knut arriving there, at least, not officially. Records for 1879 start at this location at Arkivdigital:

Searched the moving-out records of Vislanda, Kronoberg, for July of 1880, but he is not listed.
