Misc. Notes
Based on the 1881 Scottish census it appears that Richard was living as a boarder with David Winton, his future brother-in-law, in Edinburgh. In this record he was listed as Richard JOHNSTON. [672]

In the periodical, “Grip,” dated 14 Mar 1891, an announcement appeared which indicated that the photo studio, formerly operated by T. E. Perkins at 293 Yonge Street, Toronto, was now being run by J. J. Milliken. Thus, the photo of Richard that was taken there, was probably made no later than 1891. This assumes that subsequent photos taken there were under the Milliken label. [5157] Since it appears that he moved to Chicago circa 1885, that further narrows the time-frame of the photo.

Death certificate gives his mother’s name as ‘Mary STEWARD” [5189]
