Misc. Notes
There is some confusion as to which ship Jack was on when he returned as a soldier from the UK in 1919. The page of the manifest where he is listed claims to be for the S.S. Grampian, which arrived 04-MAR-1919 at Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. But that record is part of a manifest for the S.S. Cassandra, which arrived 06-MAR-1919, also at Saint John. Library and Archives Canada does not list an arrival of the S.S. Grampian on 04-MAR-1919; the only March arrival was 13-MAR-1919.

Military
World War I - 134th Overseas Battalion C.E.F. (48th Highlanders)
His 1916 Attestation papers state that he had previously served in the 48th Highlanders for 7 months.
Following his enlistment he was sent to England, as a Sergeant, on the S.S. Scotian, 08-AUG-1916, departing from Halifax, NS. He got married there in 1917 (marriage record lists his profession as “Canadian Army”), ultimately returning to Canada with his new wife and son, in 1919.
