Although John’s death certificate implies that he moved to Chicago, IL, about 1857, the 1860 census shows they were still in Cambridge Massachusetts. [412] And because he is not listed in the 1866 Chicago City Directory [1505], the family probably made their move to Chicago between 1866 & 1870. Based on voter registration, the move to Chicago was probably about October, 1863 (25 years prior to 09-OCT-1888). [1692]

An 1868 map of Chicago shows that Indiana Avenue did not extend north of East 14th Street (otherwise it would have run into Lake Michigan), so it is unclear where address ‘1221’ would have been located in 1870 ("Guide Map of Chicago", Published by Rufus Blanchard, 146 Lake St., 1868.) The city block where their home was located in 1880, is now occupied by a public school. There are no residential properties on that block anymore (do a Google Maps search for 249 E 37th St, Chicago, IL 60653).
