Research
1900 census [1376] shows Elva and her parents residing in Rockford Twp., Winnebago Co., IL, right next door to the Walter H. HALL family which includes Nellie, future wife of Floyd’s brother, Harvey J. SMITH. Perhaps this explains how Floyd got introduced to Elva, possibly while visiting his brother Harvey. In the 1930 census, Elva D. Smith reported that her father was born in Iowa, but that detail does not match this 1900 record which says George was born in Illinois. On the other hand, George’s brother, Charles, who was living with them at the time, was born in Iowa in 1875.

Searched death index at Sauk Co., Register of Deeds, and did not find any entries for Floyd’s children - as it turns out, all of them moved away from Sauk Co.
In “Sauk County Telephone Directory” for years 1988 and 1989, Floyd L. Smith was listed at 1047 3rd St., Reedsburg. He was not listed in the 1990 edition. Directories were found at the Baraboo Public Library.
