Inscription on his grave stone indicates he was a member of the 49th Wisconsin Infantry. The Wisconsin Roster of Volunteers indicates he was a Private in Co.A of that regiment. [217, p.931], [1355, p.848], [693, p.778] Served from 13-FEB-1865 to 08-NOV-1865. [1355]
His grave site includes a GAR Star for Civil War service.
Registered for Civil War draft, 30-JUN-1863. [3105]
Enlisted 13-FEB-1865; residence given as Ironton, Wisconsin. Mustered out, 08-NOV-1865. [1355, p.848]
Research
Searched for obituary in The Evening News (Baraboo, WI), Jan.10-14, 1907, but none was found.

Since his residence in 1905 was on the Vernon Co. side of the Village of Viola, his death record may have been recorded at Viroqua rather than at Richland Center.

"weezle1962sr" says Ephraim was ordained as a minister on 3 May 1884. (pending verification)
