Research
A marriage index at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mistcla2/Dibean.txt
lists the marriage of Digby Valentine Bell & Sarah Narcissa Blum on 24 JUL 1851, in St. Clair County, Michigan, which again, suggests she is Digby’s 2nd wife, but also that she may also have been previously married. This same record is indexed at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FZ97-JL2

Sarah Bell, Mother of Digby V. Bell (Jr), Born June 29, 1803, Died Feb 14, 1849. Posted 22 Sep 2011 by wrcushing49

1860 census shows that her daughters were Sarah, Gusta and Blanch. [5412] So based on the obituary of husband Digby, one of them married H. H. CUSHING and another of them married A. B. BUTLER. [7516] … so which is which?
answers: Sarah is the one who married CUSHING.
Charlotte is the one who married BUTLER - but where was she in the censuses?

The one named “Gusta” (b. in IL) in 1860 was counted as female but in 1870 there was a “Gustavus” (b. in IL) counted as male, but with an age consistent with the 10 years that had passed. There is also an “Anny P.” age 21, born in NY in the 1870 census but no corresponding child in the 1860 census.
