Misc. Notes
Lester had a tattoo of his Social Security No. on his right arm. [6668]

On 2 Aug 1915, in Alberta, Lester applied for a Homestead of the property at the NW Quarter, Section 14, Township 14, Range 10 W, 4th Meridian (160 acres). As a side note, it was three years later, as part of Lester’s application for military service, that he signed a “Form of Will” (16 May 1918), in which he bequeathed his real estate to his mother, Mrs. Ida HANSON, of Alderson, Alberta. Interestingly, this document is not in the CEF Personnel files, but in the Homestead file. As for the Homestead application, Lester declared that he was a British subject, by virtue of the fact his father had been granted that status in 1913. In May 1916, Lester built an 8’x12’ lumber home on this property, but did not actually make it his residence until 10 Jun 1917. The house was desroyed by wind in 1918.
[6702]

On 15 Apr 1919, Lester boarded the S.S. Princess Mary, at Vancouver, BC, and sailed to Ketchikan, Alaska, with the stated intent of onward travel to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. How he traveled from Alderson, Alberta, to Vancouver, and why he wanted to go to White Horse, is still a mystery. Though the passenger list did say he had been in Minot, North Dakota, in 1918. It also said his nationality was British, which he claimed after his father had switched nationalities from American to British Subject in 1913.
[6706]

Lester was the informant for his father’s death certificate. [6869]

Where was he 1919-1923? (when and how did he leave Whitehorse, YT?)
Where was he 1925-1930?

SSDI has a Lester Hanson who died Oct 1963 in California, with a birth date of 20 Jan 1897. California Death Index matches SSDI data: d. 08 Oct 1963, San Francisco.

Misc. Notes
In 1942, when Lester HANSON was registering for the draft, he provided Irene’s name as a contact, indicating her residence in Portland, Oregon. But he gave her maiden surname, even though they are presumed to have already married by that time (1940 census). [6668]

Although the 1940 census reports Irene’s birthplace as Michigan, the only Irene HARRINGTON born in Michigan around the same time appears to have married Patrick Eugene YORE, 27 Sep 1936,
and died 26 Jul 1997, in Michigan, as Irene A. YORE [105]. Lester was mistaken in 1940.
