Misc. Notes
Baptismal record for Emily’s daughter, Constance, explicitly states that Emily was a “single woman” and does not name the father of Constance. [5865]

Curiously, while census records show that Emily’s father was George PIPER, daughter Constance’s marriage records (1908 & 1914) say *her* father was George PIPER, the builder. Maybe Constance was thinking of her grandfather. [5862]

Emily is still “single” in 1911. No evidence of a husband in 1891-1911 census records.
It would appear that the 1901 census classification of Emily as “Sister” of the head of household (Thomas HICKMAN) actually meant she was the sister of the head’s wife, Elizabeth, and so sister-in-law to head. Elizabeth is reported with the same birth place as Emily.

“E. PIPER” was listed as a witness to the 1908 marriage of Thomas Roland SMITH and Constance Dorothy PIPER. [5957]
