Family legend: George was a man that Elizabeth met on a trip to South Dakota; she came home pregnant with Fairy. While it is not known in what city she met George, the photo of her taken in South Dakota was made in Groton, Bristol or Bradley, where the photographer had studios.
Given the apparent errors in the birthplace data in the 1910 census entry for Fairy GRAY, the birthplace for George is suspect. That record says that Fairy’s mother was born in North Dakota; perhaps it was George who was born there. [294] In 1900 it was reported that both of Fairy’s parents were born in Wisconsin. [2130]
