The 1911 census shows that Alfred was visiting his mother, while his wife was with the children in Podington, Bedfordshire. [3319], [3337]
Military
Trooper in 37th Company Imperial Yeomanry (Bucks.); served in the Boer War 1899-1901, and published a book about his experience: "With the 10th Imperial Yeomanry," 1905. [4213] Based on an undated news clipping pasted onto the Preface page of the book, Alfred’s mother had received a notification from the War Office that her son was “missing since September 27th” but with no further details. Obviously he later resurfaced. Death certificate lists him as “Major in the H. M. Army (retired).” [5955]
