James was in the military from 1827-1851, which explains why he is not found in any of the census records in those years [982], [1299]. In the 1851 census there was a John Parnell listed, who might be another brother. [976]
The 1861 census lists James Parnell, 54, as a visitor in the household of George and Eleanor Johnson. [548]

James is confirmed as the uncle of John Thomas JOHNSON, as the latter was the informant for James’ death certificate. [1531]
