Richard was probably still alive in 1857, when named as the father of Henry Johnson, in Henry’s marriage record (i.e., it did not reference Richard as deceased at that time). [108] Also, his wife, Jane, was reported as a widow at her death, so Richard must have died before 25 Jun 1889. [7410]

Other possible spellings to consider: JOHNSONE, JONSON, JOHNSTON (the most common spelling in Ireland), JOHNSTONE, JONSTON.
Johnson, MacShane, Johnsone, Joynson, Jonson, McChane, M'Shane, McShan, McShain, McSheane

Richard is not known to be Catholic (but could be), but there was a Richard Johnson baptized 31-DEC-1800 at St Finbarr's (South), Cork City. Father was Spencer William Johnson and mother was Honora (possibly Hannah or Nora) Welsh. Ancestry.com. Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915. The index claims birth year was 1800 but the actual record does not say that. Based on Richard’s age at death, he was born ca. 1797, so if that is his baptism record, it would represent a 3-year delay. Not sure what the average time from birth to baptism was then.
