I found a family headed by James BENSON, in Ironton, in the 1880 census, with wife “Loisa” but no Hattie BENSON in the household. There was a “Hattier HELMS” age 1, who might actually have been James’ granddaughter, though the entry says “dau.” Based on other census years Hattie would have been about 8 years old in the 1880 census. [1037]
