Prior to the Revolutionary War, Derrick lived in Leesburg, Virginia. After the war he lived in Hunterdon Co., NJ [3529, image 238]
Military
Revolutionary War (see pension claim W. 7806) [1868, p.31], [3529] Served in 2nd Virginia Regiment under Captain George Johnson and Col. William Woodford, for 22 months. Enlisted at Leesburg, Virginia. Was in the battle against Gov. Dunmore in 1775. [3529, image 238]

"Ancestry.com. New Jersey Pensioners, 1835" (no images available) lists a Derrick HOAGLAND of Hunterdon Co., from the New Jersey Militia, whose pension started 04-MAR-1831.

His pension was paid out from 1831-1835, which supports the death year of 1835. [3528]

“Catharine HOGELAND” widow of Derrick, received a pension from 1831-1844 but with a gap from Sep. 1839 through Sep. 1843. [3525] This suspension of payments [3529, image 274] was the result of her being “Overpaid by error of Pension Office.” Based on the separate pension list for Derrick [3528], the period 1831-35 in Catharine’s report actually represents the years Derrick was receiving the payments until his death. Not clear why payments stopped before her death.
