Research
searched ScotlandsPeople for Isabella’s birth from 1820-1845. nothing found for all of Scotland. Only spelling that appeared in search results was PATERSON (except 1 PATTERSON in Redgorton, Perth). There were 13 Isabella’s in Fife (3 in Dunfermline) but none with matching parents. Searching only Perth got 6 hits but no matching parents

I tried to find a birth record on ScotlandsPeople for Isabella Paterson but I have not found one with parents George and Annie, as stated in her death record. The only Isabellas born in 1828 in Carnock did not have such parents. Widening the search to all of Fife from 1825-1832 did not help either, nor did expanding to the entire country.

Misc. Notes
In 1851 John & Isabella lived in Lustylaw, just two households away from Hellen WANTON, widow of Peter WANTON.

John, Isabella and 5 of their children, a grandson (John - don’t yet know who his parents were) plus one daughter-in-law and 2 other grandchildren (children of David & Christine), arrived at Brisbane, Queensland, 01-AUG-1885, on the ship Dorunda, with the notation “Remittance Mackay.” [6218] This date is consistent with the stated “10 years in Queensland” on John’s death record. [6216] They gave “Perth” as the place they came from. It is not clear how they travelled from Brisbane to Mackay. John Winton, the one listed as age 10 upon arrival in Australia, appears to be the John listed as a grandson of John & Isabella in the 1881 census, where it is reported he was born in Dundee, Forfarshire [Angus], and thus is about the same age as his apparent uncle, Alexander.

John’s death record states that two of his daughters predeceased him but doesn’t say which two. But by process of elimination it appears to be Catherine and Isabella.
Research
John should have been in the 1841 census; he would have been listed as age 5-18. Searching for John W?nt?n in Perthshire that year, age 5-18, found a John, age 6, in Auchterarder, son of Robert and Mary. And a John, age 11, in Dunning, son of William & Elizabeth.

Expanding search to all Scotland finds (in addition to the above), 4 in Midlothian, 1 in in Greenock, Renfrewshire (son of James & Margaret), 1 in Angus (living with a non-Winton family), and 1 in Lanark (also with non-family). 1 in Kinross but is a known relative.
So he could be one of the two living with other families, but why so far away?
