The 1880 census gives Clarence’s age as “1/12” and born in August. Since the month is supposed to be a month within the census year (June to June), this contradicts the age of 1 month. Otherwise, it means the enumerator did not visit the family until September, 1880, which perhaps is why he didn’t report the date on the form. In the 1900 census his birth date was reported as Aug 1879; if that is correct then the 1880 enumerator may have meant to write “10/12” for the age. The 1880 soundex card confirms that the original census (pre-microfilm) said “1/12.” His Social Security application says 1877, which was before his parents married. [6591] [6645] [6643]
