1841 census has a Thomas FERGUSON in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, with wife Jean. That Thomas was “45” which could mean he was as old as 49, which translates to birth in 1792. But of course it could also mean he really was 45 born in 1796. But it does say (in the transcript) his birthplace was just “Scotland” which implies “not in Lanarkshire.” Occupation was “P L W Dresser” (whatever that means). Jean was born in Lanarkshire, circa 1797-1801.
There were two marriages of a Thomas FERGUSON to a Jean FISH, first was 26 Dec 1824 in Glasgow and the 2nd was 4 Dec 1825 in Barony, Lanarkshire. This is based only on seeing the index, so perhaps the first was only banns, though not sure a marriage would be a year after banns. The oldest child of the 1841 census couple was born circa 1825 in Lanarkshire.
Same family of Thomas & Jean found in 1851 Scotland census, still in Glasgow. In this case Thomas is reported as age 50, born in Cumbemauld, Dumbartonshire, so this would seem to rule out this Thomas.
Perhaps our Thomas died without marrying.
