Mary was reportedly from Newark, NJ, at the time of her marriage, so perhaps the 1860 census is the right one. [7162, Facing p. 194] [7140] But if it is, then all the more reason to suspect her father, Amos, is not the son of Judge Andrew HOAGLAND.

Mary applied for DAR membership while living in Wilkes-Barre, but the application is not dated. The preprinted space for entering the year of application starts with “189__” so it was probably in the 1890s. She reported her address at the time as 29 South Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. The 1900 census appears to have her at #28, though it does look like somebody tried to alter it to say 29.
