Appears to have been named after her paternal grandmother, Lydia, and maybe also her maternal grandmother Oline.
Lydia sent a photo postcard of daughter Vera, from Minneapolis, MN, to Eva Bates in Webster, SD. Year does not appear in the postmark but must have been around 1915-16 based on apparent age of Vera in photo. [458]
A small photo of her brother, Archie, was labeled by an unknown hand, “Lydia Bickner’s brother.”
1900 census for her father and step-mother does not list Lydia or any other children of Laura Hanson Flanders. [38]
In both 1920 and 1930 the census reports the birth place of her parents as England. Probably got confused with her father’s parents, who were from England.
