1920 census says his parents were born in Austria. [291]
Strongly suspect this is the same Frank, age 19, listed in the 1870 census for Owatonna, Steele Co., MN. That record gives his place of birth as Bohemia. It lists a younger brother, Charley, who was born in Illinois, followed by other siblings born in Minnesota. Thus I suspect that the confusion over Frank being born in Illinois comes from the apparently brief time the family spent in Illinois when Charley was born. [593]
1910 census for Owatonna, Steel Co, MN, lists a Frank Bickner or Bichner (indexed as the latter by HeritageQuest), age 56, a widower, born in Bohemia or Austria; with daughters Anna, 32, and Mary, 30. Immigrated 1863. Not a good match considering Frank’s brother Charley was born in 1856.
