The existence of Leona was suggested by Sources[37] [37], [329] [329] & [344] [344] but her name was unknown until her gravestone was located in 2008. [1498, Memorial# 53119216]
Family story was that Ora was held accountable for Leona’s accidental death, due to a tub of hot wash water spilling on the infant, [344] though the obituary [958] states the cause of death as pneumonia.
Grave stone inscription: “Leona May, Dau. of W.R. & D.A. Bates, Died Feb. 27, 1898, Age 1 Year 6 Mos. 24 Days.”
