Her maiden name may have been VAN KIRK, but both published genealogies admit this is just speculation and no sources are cited
[1818, 173].
[1868, p.8] There was a Benjamin VAN KIRK, from Hunterdon, who was a Corporal for New Jersey in the Revolution.
[4521, p. 479] But Carpenter says the VAN KIRK family he is talking about was from Flatbush, Long Island, NY, so perhaps they married in New York before moving to New Jersey. On the other hand, the story is that Derrick’s father, Jan, moved the family to NJ in 1713 or 1714, before the supposed date Derrick married.
Another source (GenealogieOnline Trees Index) claims Mary’s father was Bernard Janse Van Kirk and her mother was Rachel Jacobse Vandergrift. The same source futher states that Mary was born about 1692 in Long Island, NY, and died 05-OCT-1765, in Raritan, Middlesex, New Jersey.
