Misc. Notes
In Source [35, p.93] there is a quote (Chapter V) attributed to the older brother, Daniel, “I entertain the little boys” which I take to mean there were at least two brothers younger than Daniel. One could also conclude that there were as many as three younger brothers, since at one point they are refered to as “all” rather than the expected “both” had there only been two.

John made at least two visits to the United States, in 1901 (ship unknown) and again in 1909 aboard the RMS Lusitania. [1485] The trip in 1901 is only documented via the record of his return to Liverpool, 30-NOV-1901, aboard the S.S. Etruria. [1486] He may have also sailed to NY in 1886, though the passenger list does not contain as much detail. [1487]

The 1911 census names his granddaughter, Margaret Joselyn [sic] MACINTOSH, but it is unclear which of John’s sons is Margaret’s father. [4225] A corresponding birth index entry has been found, but the certificate would have to be obtained to identify the parents: BMD Births Jun Qtr. 1908; Mackintosh, Margaret Jocelyn. Marylebone Registration district, Vol.1a, p.592 [462]

In 1911, the family had six servants. [4225]

At time of death, John was “of independent means” [1532]
Research
Found possible reference to John as a member of 87th Foot (Royal Irish Fusiliers), “ret.from China”, dated 1861. But note that in this source, the name is spelled “McINTOSH.” [6715]
